LORIX OS 1.7: Wifx L1 4G support, smarter OTA updates on a Yocto Kirkstone base

LORIX OS 1.7 is available for all our gateways. It adds support for the new Wifx L1 4G, makes system updates more transparent and prepares the ground for smaller downloads, and refreshes the platform your gateway runs on.

Wifx L1 4G: your mobile connection, managed from the interface

LORIX OS 1.7 brings full support for the new Wifx L1 4G gateway, both in the Linux kernel and in the management software. With ModemManager and the new WWAN settings in LORIX Manager and its GUI, you can configure, monitor and troubleshoot your 4G connection directly from the web interface — no console commands needed to get a gateway online in the field.

Updates you can understand — and soon, download less of

When an update fails, clearer diagnostics now tell you what went wrong, making incidents easier to troubleshoot and support faster to provide. The update system is also prepared for the next step: delta updates, which will download only what actually changed instead of a full system image. This means smaller downloads and less data usage — particularly valuable for the Wifx L1 4G and other gateways running on mobile or metered connections. In the meantime, LORIX Manager v0.18 already supports delta artifacts, post-update steps such as opkg configure now run reliably at boot, and post-reboot scripts are executed through a more robust mechanism.

A more secure, more stable foundation

The platform moves to Yocto 4 (Kirkstone), bringing core system tools up to date: OpenRC 0.43.5, OpenSSL 3.0.8, ethtool 6.7 and Rust 1.83.0. Beyond new capabilities, this keeps your gateway on a maintained base benefiting from the latest security fixes, stability improvements and performance optimizations. System logs have also been reduced in size, saving storage and making them easier to read when you need them.

Enterprise level network and smoother LoRa deployments

wpa-supplicant now enables 802.1x support, so your gateway can authenticate on secured enterprise networks — useful in corporate and campus environments. On the radio side, the ChirpStack MQTT forwarder is updated to 4.3.1 and the Helium gateway package refreshed.

Easier day-to-day management

Manager GUI v0.18 adds WWAN support and lets you perform a factory reset straight from the interface — practical when repurposing a gateway or preparing it for a new deployment.

Updating is as easy as always through the OTA update system — each step stays under your control, and you can cancel or roll back if something goes wrong.
