LoRaWAN is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) wireless communication protocol. Specialised in the field of IoT, it allows sensors or objects to securely send small amounts of data over long distances using very little energy.

LoRa gateways are very inexpensive, and the low power requirements generally make the object very accessible. This makes it possible to read data on equipment that was previously not financially feasible.
The design of the LoRaWAN protocol puts security first. All data is encrypted from end to end to ensure data confidentiality. The protocol also defines a standard for updating sensors so that vulnerabilities can be fixed if necessary even after commissioning.
LoRaWAN is universal and standardised. The major telephone operators in many countries have established their own networks and offer them with subscriptions. If the coverage is not good enough, you can deploy base stations yourself without a licence, which are both financially and technically accessible. To speed up prototyping or carry out a pilot project, you can also rely on the community networks that exist throughout the world.
